Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins the moment you land in Tanzania. You will be warmly welcomed by your representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or the Kilimanjaro area – a journey through the beautiful Tanzanian countryside, with views of the majestic mountain on the horizon.

After breakfast, drive to Machame Gate the official starting point of your Kilimanjaro expedition. The journey to the gate takes you through the beautiful countryside around the mountain before reaching the forested foothills – a moment of anticipation and excitement.

At the gate, your guide completes registration while the mountain crew prepares the equipment. Once everything is ready, your trek begins through the magnificent montane rainforest a world of towering trees, moss‑covered branches, and natural forest pathways. The trail winds through dense vegetation, with colourful birds and small forest wildlife along the way. After several hours of hiking, you reach Machame Camp, situated within the forest zone.

After breakfast, continue your ascent as the rainforest gradually disappears and the landscape opens into the spectacular moorland and heath zone a dramatic change in scenery that reveals the mountain's vastness.

The trail becomes steeper as you leave the dense forest behind, revealing wider views across the surrounding valleys and lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. Giant heathers, unique high‑altitude plants, and volcanic rock formations begin to dominate the scenery. Eventually, you arrive at Shira Camp, located on the spectacular Shira Plateau.

Today is one of the most important acclimatization stages of the entire expedition. You will climb significantly higher during the day before descending to sleep at a lower altitude a classic "climb high, sleep low" strategy that dramatically increases your chances of reaching the summit.

Leaving Shira Plateau, the trail crosses a rugged volcanic landscape toward Lava Tower, a spectacular volcanic formation standing at approximately 4,630 metres. The environment becomes increasingly barren, with rocky terrain, volcanic formations, and sparse vegetation creating a dramatic alpine atmosphere. After reaching Lava Tower, you will stop for lunch and allow your body time to adapt to the increasing altitude. The route then descends toward Barranco Camp, providing a valuable acclimatisation experience.

After breakfast, continue toward Barafu Camp the final base camp before the summit. The trail becomes increasingly rugged as you enter the stark alpine desert zone, where vegetation is extremely limited and volcanic rocks dominate the landscape.

The route climbs gradually along exposed ridges toward the Barafu area. As you gain altitude, the surroundings become more dramatic and the air noticeably thinner. Kibo Peak rises majestically ahead, while views toward Mawenzi may be visible depending on weather conditions. Arriving at Barafu Camp, meaning "ice" in Swahili, marks an important milestone.

The most extraordinary day begins around midnight. After a light meal and final preparations, you start the demanding ascent toward Uhuru Peak under the stars – a magical experience of climbing through the darkness beneath a canopy of stars.

The trail climbs slowly through steep volcanic terrain toward Stella Point at approximately 5,739 metres. The ascent is challenging because of the extreme altitude, cold temperatures, and limited oxygen, so the pace is deliberately slow and steady. After reaching Stella Point, continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire African continent at 5,895 metres. Standing at Uhuru Peak is the defining moment of the expedition.

After breakfast, begin your final descent through the beautiful Mweka rainforest a walk that brings your Kilimanjaro adventure to a close. After several days in the high‑altitude environment, the return of dense green vegetation, warmer temperatures, and fresh forest air creates a wonderful contrast.
